Tennessee Democrat State Senator Heidi Campbell Called Israel ‘Oppressive Regime,’ Netanyahu ‘Ruthless Dictator’

One day after Hamas terrorists invaded Israel and killed 1,400 innocent Israelis, State Senator Heidi Campbell (D-Nashville) issued a statement on X, formerly Twitter, that Israel is an “oppressive regime,” and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a “ruthless dictator.”

On Monday Campbell followed her October 8 tirade on X against Israel with another ill-advised attack, this time calling Speaker of the U.S. House Mike Johnson (R-LA) “a full-blown member . . . of the American Taliban.”

On Sunday, Campbell attended a pro-Hamas rally in downtown Nashville, where protesters called for the eradication of Israel and “an end to Israel’s crimes.”

Video posted on social media from that rally shows the protesters marching and chanting slogans including:

“Hey, hey; ho, ho; this occupation’s got to go;”

“Not another nickel, not another dime; no more money for Israel’s crimes;”

“Free, free Palestine;” and

“Joe Biden you will see – Palestine will be free; Netanyahu you will see – Palestine will be free.”

Earlier this year Campbell was the only member of The Tennessee State Senate to vote against a resolution opposing BDS boycotts of Israel. The bill, SB1993, was sponsored by Sen. Bo Watson (R-Hixson), and passed the Senate by a 30 to 1 vote, with Campbell the only “no” vote. Other Democrats in the State Senate voted “yes.”

The bill, sponsored in the Tennessee House of Representatives by State Rep. Ryan Williams (R-Cookeville), also easily passed in the lower chamber and was signed into law by Gov. Bill Lee (R-TN).

Tennessee now has one of the strongest bills of this type in the country and joins 36 states that have passed anti-boycott laws to prevent state agencies from awarding contracts to parties engaged in national-origin discrimination against Israel. The law does not violate anyone’s constitutional right to free speech and these state laws have been upheld in federal courts. The latest attempt to challenge one such state law was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this year. In 2015, President Obama signed legislation that targeting the growing political movement in Europe  to boycott, divest from or sanction Israel.

Elected to the Tennessee State Senate in 2020, Campbell was defeated in the 2022 general election for the TN-5 Congressional seat by Republican Andy Ogles (R-Columbia). She subsequently ran for Mayor of Nashville, finishing in a distant fifth place in the August 2023 general election.

She is up for re-election to The Tennessee State Senate in 2024.

Stopped clock, blind hog, She ain’t wrong.

  2. Jack Dodson

Has the Tennessee GOP even recruited someone yet to oppose Campbell? Her state senate district is the only one currently winnable in Davidson County for a Republican and she is absolutely repellent with little to no popular support.

DUI Heidi is a joke, always has been.

why do dems always side with terrorists?

And Heidi, let me return the name calling compliment. You clearly are misinformed or simply have no understanding of the barbaric conduct of Hamas. Frankly, you don’t know what you are talking about.

  5. David Longfellow

Democrats always come down on the side of terrorist killers and criminals.
    It’s in their DNA.

Good the journalist are now actually investigating Heidi. It was surprising that she and her scandals were left alone in the Campsign of ‘22 despite the deep coverage of other ‘22 Congressional District 5 coverage. I was curious as to why Republican candidates in the primary received coverage the Heidi’s scandals never received

    Funds, driving, lawsuits….
